Credit where credit is due – Accent Peerless

Accent Peerless - Suffolk CourtResidents might remember my video blog with Anita Blackie from Accent Peerless a few weeks ago where she announced a series of road shows and community clean up days at some of their many locations across the borough.

Friday (27th Jan 2012) was the final event which was held at Suffolk Court at Dettingen Park in Deepcut.

Prior to the event I emailed local residents via the community email distribution lists to inform them of the event but also if anyone was unable to attend to let me have their questions/suggestions which I would pass on to the Accent Peerless team on site. Quite a few suggestions came through which the team were very quick to react too.

While I was at the event the Accent Peerless team and their small army of contractors were busy across Suffolk Court cleaning/tidying communal areas and helping residents clear away any bulky items.

The Deepcut PCSO Lisa Ford & Kate Houghton from itsyourplace were also at the event and on hand to speak to residents.

Accent Peerless were also keen to engage the rest of the community of Dettingen Park so they went armed with black sacks and litter pickers over to the Dettingen Park Store, the Dettingen children’s play area & Deepcut Village Centre and filled several sacks. They did not have to do that but in my mind that demonstrates a willingness to play their part in the wider community. Nice touch.

From my discussions with the Accent Peerless team today I got the impression they are keen to work hard to improve the areas under their control for the benefit of their residents and the wider community. They also accept they can always do better but I think this is a really great start.

Disappointment at timing of Deepcut Public Consultation exhibition – 7th December 2011

DeepcutVillageSignI have received dozens of emails and calls from concerned residents and indeed fellow councillors at the short notice that the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO or MOD to you and me) have given for their public exhibition at the Deepcut Village Centre on 7th December.

There are several factors to consider here:

  • I received my notice on 29th November 11 (That is only 9 days notice)
  • The event is on between 1330 and 1930. Most people are either at work or commuting home during those times.
  • Apparently the exhibition has been publicised in the Star Courier. Many Deepcut residents would not know as that publication is not distributed there.
  • DIO have said leaflets have been distributed to properties within the vicinity of the site. Many of my neighbours have not received this leaflet. In fact many people only learned about the event when I posted it on this web site.
  • Only weeks away from Christmas many people are busy.

I am very disappointed at the rushed manor in which this event has been organised and bearing in mind the factors above only adds to the speculation within the community that this is by design.

However, it is still important that if you can make the event, that you do attend and make your views known.

You might find the following document useful which was sent to SHBC by the Deepcut Liaison Group in response to the recent scoping report.

DLG Response to Scoping Report

Traffic of course has always been one of the major concerns of most local residents in their responses to SHBC consultations. In my mind all efforts must be made to not encourage traffic to the village. Therefore I will be very interested to learn the size and location of the supermarket as this will play a major part in traffic mitigation measures. Residents have been explicit in their views in respect of the supermarket. It should serve the needs of the village of Deepcut and not the wider community. A large supermarket will only draw traffic to the village so this is a very important factor that I would encourage residents to keep an eye on when attending the exhibition.

Deepcut quarterly community panel meeting – 20th September 2011

Deepcut Policing Team

PCSO Lisa Ford, NSO PC Andy Riley & PCSO 'Babs' Ball

Your neighbourhood policing team will be holding its quarterly community panel meeting on Tuesday 20th September at 7pm at the Spar Shop, Dettingen Park.

This is an opportunity for Deepcut Residents to speak to their nighbourhood policing team and set the community policing priorities for the forthcoming quarter.

Dettingen Park has seen an increase in anti social behaviour involving youths recently that is causing a number of residents concern so this is a perfect chance to have your policing team address these concerns.
